Research in the Holmquist lab aims to unravel the patterns and processes shaping biodiversity and address major biodiversity knowledge gaps by pairing cutting-edge molecular tools with field biology and museum collections. We focus on arthropods, especially spiders, to answer fundamental questions in ecology and evolution across different systems – from the mountains of Sulawesi to post-fire landscapes and urban environments in California. A core mission is applying these insights to critical conservation challenges, such as understanding wildfire impacts on native species, supporting urban biodiversity, and unlocking the potential of natural history collections for preserving and understanding life on Earth.
